‘A Trip To Jamaica’ Breaks Nollywood’s 2016 Record In 10 Days In Cinemas
AY Comedian‘s Second Movie, ‘A Trip To Jamaica‘
that is currently showing in Cinemas nationwide has already raked in 80
Million Naira, surpassing every other Nollywood movies that had hit the
cinemas in 2016.
The movie also set a good tone for itself in its first week
in the cinemas, by making 61 Million Naira, more than Will Smith’s
Hollywood’s ‘Suicide Squad’ record of 40 Million Naira in Nigeria
Cinemas. This report has also confirmed A Trip To Jamaica with a new
record as the fastest film to hit the Naira Century mark in the history
of Nigerian cinemas in 7 days.
According to Moses Babatope of FilmOne Distribution “Going by these figures, A Trip To Jamaica,
Ay’s sophomore film as a producer, is set to smash the box office
records currently held by his own ’30 Days In Atlanta’.” The 2014 film
made over N160 million during its stay in Nigerian cinemas making it one
of the 3 world highest domestic gross movies in The Guinness World
Records.
Greennews.ng spoke with Ayo Makun on the
incredible feat, as he thanked movie goers all over the country for
their support. “I feel good and very thankful to movie goers who are
giving me cause to smile… they have succeeded in making me believe that
hardwork pays.
“More importantly, the special grace that I have enjoyed
over the years attest to a biblical fact…. The race is not to the
swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches
to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance
happen to them all,” he added.
A Trip to Jamaica premiered on September 25, 2016
and it features Ay, Funke Akindele, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Eric Roberts, Paul
Campbell, Chris Attoh and others.
