Glo says it has “not acquired 9Mobile”

  Telecommunications company, Glo , has distanced itself from media reports which claim that it was the preferred bidder to acquire telecommunications company, 9Mobile. A press statement issued in Lagos on Friday said: “Globacom has not acquired 9Mobile as widely reported in the media.” According to the company, “We are bound by the terms of the acquisition process as stipulated by the authorities handling it and we will not in any way sway or deviate from the rules”. “We repose confidence in Barclays Africa, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) which are handling the process that will lead to the emergence of a new owner for the company”. Globacom urges all stakeholders and, indeed, the Nigerian public to disregard the report.

Benue Attacks: “Withdraw Anti-Open Grazing Law” – Fulani Group Gives Condition For Peace

A Fulani socio-cultural organisation, the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN), has given what seems to be like a hint that will likely put an end to the conflicts between farmers and herders in Benue State and other states. According to the group, the government of Nigeria has “from time immemorial” relegated the Fulani herdsmen to the background where they have never been allowed to exercise any right in the country like other citizens. Consequently, the cattle rustlers are left with no other option that to fight back the prolonged neglect and injustice, the group added. Stephanie Linus visits rescue ship ‘Aquarius’ in Italy as She advocates against Human Trafficking

Nollywood actress Stephanie Linus is currently in Italy to advocate against human trafficking as it has become more rampant in recent times. In partnership with international medical humanitarian organization – Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and European Organization for the Rescue of Lives in the Mediterranean – SOS Mediterranean, the actress visited the rescue ship Aquarius today. Her visit was a very productive one as her and her team were given a tour of the ship, and afterwards, discussions on the overall need to educate people on the dangers of being trafficked and integrating the rescued victims back into the society followed. She also had a press conference where she spoke about measures that can be used to curb human trafficking, stating that working together, can get the high percentage of human trafficking down drastically and hopefully soon, eliminate this world issue. Police to Deploy 500 Officers as Alleged target of Ozubulu Massacre “Bishop” Buries Father

The police plans to deploy 500 policemen to Ozubulu community in Anambra State as the alleged target of the 2017 church shooting  Aloysius Ikegwuonu  aka  Bishop buries his father, Punch reports. 13 persons had been killed after gunmen stormed   St. Phillips Catholic Church , Ozubulu in August, 2017. Another 29 had been wounded, and reports claimed the gunmen had been in search of Bishop, a South African based Nigerian businessman who was in Nigeria visiting. His father,  Cyprian Ikegwuonu , was one of the deceased in the attack, and Bishop, speaking to journalists on Thursday, said everything is in place to give his father a befitting burial. Tensions are however reported to be high in the community as the gunmen are expected to once again stage an attack during the funeral. ‘Davido is being investigated because his response is suspicious’ – Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal

Lagos State Police Commissioner, Imohimi Edgal, who was the guest today on Channels Television Breakfast Show, Sunrise, talked about Tagbo’s death and why Davido is being investigated. According to him, the singer’s response to the alleged murder incident is suspicious, which is why he’s being investigated. “I asked Davido that, ‘When you left that bar, did you have anything again to do with the deceased?’ What he said was that he was only informed by mutual friends in some other bar that the deceased had died and I took his word for it. “I called for further investigations, pulled the CCTV cameras from the General Hospital, only to discover that it was Davido’s escort Hilux van, his driver, his friends that brought Tagbo Umeike (the deceased) dead and dumped in the hospital then fled the scene.” Imohimi said this response by Davido raises suspicion, and that is what is been investigated by the police. “That raises curiosity and of course that’s what we are investi...

Pope Francis proclaims 35 new Saints including 33 Martyrs

Pope Francis,  who has repeatedly paid tribute to Christians suffering or dying for their faith in current times, especially in the Middle East since he became Pontiff in 2013, gave the Catholic Church 35 new saints during a Mass celebrated by Pope Francis in St Peter’s Square, Rome. Three of the saints were children in 16th-century Mexico who were martyred for embracing the Catholic faith and refusing to return to their ancient conditions. 30 who were also proclaimed Saints on Sunday are martyrs, including priests and lay people, who suffered anti-Catholic persecution in 1645 at the hands of Dutch Calvinists in Brazil. The remaining two saints were a priest in Spain in the last century and an Italian priest who died in 1739.

Declare State of Emergency in North, S’East Group Tells FG

The Igbo National Council has called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the 19 northern states, following the call by the Arewa Youth Council that the Igbo people living in the region should leave on or before October 1, 2017. The pan -Igbo group said a state of emergency would forestall chaos that may occur after the expiration of the notice to quit given to the Igbos. In a statement on Saturday by the President and Secretary of the INC, Chilos Godsent and Zulu Ofoelue, respectively, the group also called on the National Assembly to declare President Muhammadu Buhari incapacitated by invoking Section 144 of the 1999 Constitution. It noted that the health condition of the president was setting the country back. Yesterday, French President Emmanuel Macron  met with singer Rihanna at the Elysee Palace after the pop star appealed to him on Twitter to contribute to her fund for education in developing countries. Rihanna was welcomed by the first lady Brigitte Macron at the top of the steps of the Elysee Palace, the official residence of the French presidents in Paris, before talks with the president. NYSC releases Orientation Course for Batch “A” Stream II

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has released its orientation course for corps members looking to serve with the second stream of Batch “A”. In a statement released by NYSC on its social media platforms , Friday, July 21, 2017, has been slated for printing of Call-up letters. The orientation Camp opens on Wednesday, July 26, Swearing-in Ceremony commences on Friday, July 28, and the camp closes on Tuesday, August 15, 2017. Prospective corps members are also advised to visit the NYSC website for more information.

He also visited the troops of 3 battalions of the Nigerian army in Maiduguri. Sometimes the demands of your job may require you making sacrifices, especially concerning activities you hold dear, but Nigerian pilot Usoro Essien is finding ways to worship irrespective of that. In a Facebook post on Monday , Usoro shared videos of him possibly preparing to fly, and wrote: “Sometimes we fly on Sundays but that doesn’t stop us from lifting up holy hands to God. Gov. Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has appealed to striking workers in the state to “show more understanding with the government”. Al-Makura made the appeal Tuesday in Lafia, at the distribution of relief materials to 50 communities affected by various crises: The workers are supposed to show some understanding because government has made their welfare a priority. Senator Dino Melaye , has called for the declaration of a state-of-emergency in Kogi, saying there was insecurity and anarchy in the state. His call at the Senate plenary on Tuesday was against the backdrop of two alleged assassination attempts on his life. The Senator represents Kogi West. Melaye, who came under Order 43 of Senate Standing Rule, prayed the senate to order the Inspector-General of Police to immediately undertake an audit of the police armoury in Kogi command.
