FG Promises To End Scarcity Of Aviation Fuel Soon

The Federal Government has assured air travelers that the scarcity of Jet A1 otherwise known as aviation fuel will soon be a thing of the past as efforts are being made to reduce the cancellation and rescheduling of flights due to the scarcity of the product. Minister of State for Aviation, Mr Hadi Sirika, who disclosed this in Abuja while inspecting facilities at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport also announced federal government’s plans to concession the management of some airports through Public Private Partnership in order to upgrade the airports. The Minister of State for Petroleum, Mr Ibe Kachukwu, also assured aviation industry practitioners and air travelers that the hardship being experienced as a result of scarcity of aviation is being addressed.

Channels TV Chairman, John Momoh Elected As BON Chairman

Chairman of Channels Media Group, owners of Channels TV, John Momoh was today elected the new Chairman of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria, (BON). The election took place at the organization's annual delegate conference in Abuja. Momoh beat his opponent by polling 51 votes against Abbas Dalhatu from Freedom Radio, Kano who scored 12 votes. This is the first time a private television media owner would be occupying this position. Congrats to him.

President Buhari Meets With Governor Dickson in Abuja

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday held a meeting with the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriacke Dickson, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting, which lasted for about an hour, was said to focus on how to unite Nigerian leaders across political lines, following the 2015 general elections and the attendant tribunal cases. Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, Governor Dickson lauded the President’s non-interference in the elections in Bayelsa State, contrary to the propaganda that trailed the elections. He observed that President Buhari’s stance would go a long way to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic process. The Governor also extended an olive branch to his opponents and the people of Bayelsa to join him in the development of the state. Speaking on the way forward on militancy in the Niger Delta region, Mr Dickson upheld dialogue as the only solution, saying that military solution is not the right option.

Fourteen death row prisoners from Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, India and Indonesia were on Tuesday told they had 72 hours to live, according to the Community Legal Aid Institute. Many of these are filing eleventh hour clemency pleas with President Joko Widodo, even though some still maintain their innocence. However preparations for the executions are intensifying at Cilacap in Central Java, the gateway to the penal island of Nusakambangan, where the prisoners will be shot dead by special police known as BRIMOB around midnight on Friday. Community Legal Aid Institute director Ricky Gunawan and lawyer of Nigerian death row inmate, Humphrey Ejike Jefferson Eleweke, who was with the prisoners when they were served with the papers marking the beginning of the 72 hour countdown on Tuesday said the Africans believed they had been unfairly targeted. Group Demands Probe Of Dogara, Others Over Alleged Budget Padding

A group of lawmakers in the House of Representatives, Transparency Group, has demanded that the allegations brought against the Speaker and some principal officers of the House be investigated by external investigators. The call is sequel to the ongoing controversy regarding allegations of the padding of the 2016 budget by former House Committee Chairman on Appropriation, Representative Abdulmumin Jibrin. In a swift reaction, the Chairman of the House Committee on Media, Representative Abdulrazak Namdas, dismissed the allegations by Mr Jibrin against the House leadership. Speaker Yakubu Dogara has in a statement issued by his spokesman, Turaki Hassan, given the former Appropriation Committee Chairman a seven – day ultimatum to tender an unreserved apology to him and retract all allegations made against him or face legal action. GROUP DECRIES VIOLENCE IN RIVERS; URGES INEC TO POSTPONE ELECTIONS.

We once again woke up to the news of the ugly incidence of the arson on the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, in some Local government areas of Rivers State, just some days ahead of reshceduled bye elections into some legislatives seats in the State. This arson, is coming in the midst of reports of threats of violence amongst politicians, in various parts of the State, in the buil d up to the rescheduled poll. One of INEC offices located in Boma, Kahna LGA was burnt which signifies build up to impending crisis usually caused by political class.
