Image
Yusuf Buhari As A Metaphor For Nigeria’s Health Sector – Niran Adedokun Last weekend, some national dailies reported the appreciation of the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, to the medical personnel tending to the needs of her son, Yusuf, who was involved in a bike accident last month. This piece was written by Niran Adedokun. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of KingsleySlim.com. The letter, which came alongside reports that the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, was at the head of the medical team treating the young man was the first credible information on the first son’s state of health since the unfortunate incident a little over two weeks ago. Another Nationwide Blackout Looms As Explosion Hits Escravos Gas Pipeline Again

Image
There might be blackout in some parts of the country following the fresh explosion that has rocked the Escravos-to-Lagos (ELP) located in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region, barely four days after repairs, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation said on Thursday. It is understood that this has led to a drop in the generation of power from hydropower plants by 494 megawatts in six days. It was gathered that a heavy explosion rocked the pipeline criss-crossing the Ugbokodo community near the Warri refinery in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State. It was also learnt that the explosion was as a result of leaks from a gas pipeline in the community, which had earlier been reported to the management of the NGC. However, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has said that repairs have commenced immediately on the facility in order to address the fresh incident. The commission did not state what caused the fresh explosion on the pipeline. “Nigerian Na...

Benue Attacks: “Withdraw Anti-Open Grazing Law” – Fulani Group Gives Condition For Peace

Image
A Fulani socio-cultural organisation, the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN), has given what seems to be like a hint that will likely put an end to the conflicts between farmers and herders in Benue State and other states. According to the group, the government of Nigeria has “from time immemorial” relegated the Fulani herdsmen to the background where they have never been allowed to exercise any right in the country like other citizens. Consequently, the cattle rustlers are left with no other option that to fight back the prolonged neglect and injustice, the group added. The Nation  also quoted the National Secretary General of GAFDAN Alhaji Saleh Bayeri as calling for the abrogation of the Anti-Open grazing Bill on Thursday, January 11, 2018. His words: “There has been so much hatred against the Fulani by other Nigerians over the years and successive governments never cared to see to the challenges facing the Fulanis in this co...

Image
U.S. President Donald Trump canceled a visit to London scheduled for early this year, saying he was disappointed with the “Obama administration having sold” the U.S. embassy in the British capital. “(The) reason I canceled my trip to London is that I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for “peanuts,” only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars,” Trump said in a tweet late on Thursday. However, the embassy website showed that the decision to move the location was taken months before Barack Obama took office in January 2009. The U.S. Embassy & Consulates in the UK said in October 2008 that the embassy will be relocated for security reasons. “Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!,” Trump said on Twitter. The Daily Mail earlier reported the cancellation of Trump’s UK visit in which he was expected to inaugurate the new embassy. The U.S. is leaving behind an imposi...
